stillness of fjord after magnificent fjord. In the
tiny village of Flaam, which nestles in Sognefjord,
let the train take the strain. Its narrow gauge
railway rises nearly 3,000 ft above sea level in
just 12 miles. It is the steepest in Europe and your
neck will ache from turning to catch the views which
are as dramatic as the journey, with waterfalls on
every side. From Olden, you can get a close-up view
of the glaciers at the edge of Nordfjord which have
turned Olden Lake the deepest shade of green you
will ever see. While in Bergen, there is an amazing
cable car ride to the top of Mount Ulriken, one of
seven mountains overlooking this bustling port.
